Protect Yourself From Cell Phone Radiation

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are areas of energy that are produced by electrically charged objects. These fields are often invisible, but they can be detected using special equipment.

EMFs are found everywhere in our environment, from the natural world to the man-made world. They are produced by a wide variety of sources, including power lines, cell phones, and electrical appliances.

Radio frequency (RF) radiation is the part of the EMF, which is emitted by antennas for wireless communication, such as cell phones, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, WiFi routers, batteries and more.

Our head and neck are more susceptible to EMF emissions than our arms and legs are. It has been shown EMF radiation has some negative health effects, such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Nausea
  • Anxiety

Given almost everyone’s dependence on their cell phones, it’s important to be aware of the potential risks associated with radiation exposure. Here are some tips on how to protect yourself from cell phone radiation:

1. Limit The Time You Spend On Your Smartphone

The more time you spend talking on your smartphone, the greater your exposure to EMF radiation. So one of the best ways to protect yourself is to limit the amount of time you spend using your cell phone.

If you must use your phone for extended periods of time, consider using a hands-free device or speakerphone so you can keep the phone away from your head.

2. Put Extra Space Between Your Head And The Phone

When you use your cell phone in speaker mode, headphones, or earbuds, the EMF radiation is directed away from your head. This significantly reduces your exposure to EMF radiation.

If you must use your phone without a speaker or headphones, try to keep it as far away from your head as possible. For example, you can put the phone on a table or desk instead of holding it up to your ear.

3. Turn Up the Voice Volume

When using conventional talk mode, raise the volume to its maximum setting and hold the phone 1 to 5 inches away from your head.

4. Don’t Make Calls When The Signal Is Weak

When you make a call in an area with a weak signal, your phone has to work harder to connect, which means it emits more radiation. So if you can, wait until you have a strong signal before making a call.

5. Use The Text Function More Often

Texting is a good alternative to talking on the phone since it doesn’t require your phone to emit as much radiation. So if you don’t need to have a conversation, send a text instead.

6. Store Your Phone Away From Your Body

The closer your phone is to your body, the more exposure you have to EMF radiation. So, When you’re not using your cell phone, keep your phone away from your head and neck area, and don’t carry it in your pocket.

7. Don’t Sleep With Your Phone Near Your Bed

EMF radiation has been shown to disrupt sleep, so it’s important to keep your phone away from your bed at night. If you need an alarm clock, consider using a traditional alarm clock instead of your phone.

8. Keep Your Phone Away From Children

Children are more vulnerable to the effects of EMF radiation, so it’s important to keep their exposure to a minimum. If you must use your phone around children, try to limit their time on it and keep it stored away from their bodies when not in use.

9. Direct Your Call to the Car’s Speaker When Driving

If you use your cell phone while driving, direct the call to your car’s speakerphone so you can assure safe driving as well as lowering your exposure to EMFs.

10. Enable Airplane Mode

Airplane mode is a setting on your phone that essentially turns it into a glorified alarm clock. When you enable airplane mode, your phone will no longer emit any radiation, since it’s not actively trying to connect to any cell towers.

You can still receive calls and texts while in airplane mode, but you’ll have to disable the setting to actually use your phone. This is ideal for when you’re sleeping or otherwise don’t need to be accessible.

11. Turn Your Mobile Off If It Has A Poor Signal

The weaker the signal your phone has, the harder it will work to try and find a better connection. This increased effort means increased radiation emission.

If you don’t need to be available, it’s best to just turn your phone off. It will emit zero radiation in this state.

12. Don’t Use Your Phone If It’s Low On Battery

When your cell phone’s battery is low, it emits more EMF radiation in order to conserve power. So, if you must use your phone, make sure it is fully charged.

13. Use A Cell Phone With Low EMF Radiation Levels

Not all cell phones emit the same amount of EMF radiation. In fact, there is a wide range in the level of EMF radiation emitted by different phones. You can find out how much EMF radiation a particular cell phone emits by looking for its specific absorption rate (SAR) value. The SAR value is a measure of the amount of EMF radiation absorbed by the body when using a cell phone.

The FCC requires all cell phones sold in the United States to have a SAR value of no more than 1.6 watts per kilogram. But keep in mind that the actual SAR value of a cell phone can vary depending on how you use it.

For example, if you use your cell phone in an area with a weak signal, it will emit more EMF radiation than if you use it in an area with a strong signal.

So if you’re concerned about exposure to EMF radiation, it’s important to choose a cell phone with a low SAR value.
